Prevention Measures Worth Knowing

Not every prevention tactic works. Ultrasonic stakes, vibrating stakes, and wind-powered pinwheels are widely sold but haven’t proven effective in research trials. The same goes for common home remedies like castor bean plants, garlic, or scent-based repellents. They don’t reliably keep gophers off a property.

Physical exclusion is a different story. Underground wire mesh fencing buried at least 2 feet deep can protect garden beds and high-value plantings from gopher access. For broader property protection, professional treatment and ongoing management are a dependable path.
